There are two setting for its operation, 'set-up' and 'on' I think that there is a problem with this switch. The camera does switch on but on some occasions the light on the front that should flash red once switched to 'on' for 10 seconds flashes continually and on other occasions it flashes purple even though it has a new set of batteries. it will not take either videos or stills. Re ? below there is no visible damage.

EP also met my need in delaying the return postage until a time that I was able to be at home to receive the DVD player.
