I removed capacitor and cleaned residue with baking soda/distilled water paste, rinsed with distilled vinegar and rinsed further with 99.9% isopropyl to prevent further damage. I attempted to find continuity of trace without success.

On collection I was greeted by Norbert the very pleasant staff member again who handed me the headphones in a protective case. I was absolutely overjoyed. I thought they were beyond being fixed. How wrong could I be. They're definitely as good as new. -
