I was woken by occasional vibrations, and saw that it was restarting repeatedly (Fitbit logo flashing with alternate background colours, then red X, then progress bar, then repeating). I took it off and left it for ~4 hours. It was then "dead" (blank and unresponsive to button presses). Charging did not bring it to life; hard reset and factory reset button combinations do nothing. Connecting the charger cause it to do one cycle of the following: Fitbit logo with alternate flashing background for about 10 seconds –> red X –> Blank for a few seconds –> static Fitbit logo (no flashing) –> blank, and nothing further. This can be repeated but only after disconnecting from charger for some tiem (5 mins is not enough, 1 hour is).
