Apple Music Updated With A Widget, Better Playlist Management, And More

Somewhere on the Apple campus—presumably in a dark, musty basement—there are several Android developers who are tasked with supporting the Apple Music Android app. I bet the other Apple employees call them names and throw things at them in the halls. These brave souls have completed work on a new version of the app, and it’s in the Play Store right now. It adds a playback widget, gift card support, better playlists, and more.

Here’s the changelog for Apple Music v0.9.7.

It’s weird that an Android app for music launched without a widget, but this is technically still a beta. It has album art, playback controls, and a favorite button. Playlists are improved in this version too—you can add new tracks to a playlist without first adding them to your library. That’s handy considering there’s finally a way to sort songs by popularity. You’ll be able to find popular songs and drop them into playlists without cluttering up your music.
