Honor CEO, George Zhao, took to Chinese social media network Weibo to hint at the company’s next big-screened phone – thought to be the Honor X10 Max.
With the progression towards thinner bezels, taller, narrower aspect ratio displays and a greater demand for media consumption on-the-go, it’s no surprise that phone screens have ballooned in size in recent years. The average flagship phone easily breaks past the 6in barrier, with offerings like the OnePlus 8 Pro well on their way to 7 inches.

Speaking about recent challenges that his company had faced, including the transition from 4G to 5G, Zhao made mention of a return to large-screened devices in a post on social media site, Weibo.
With existing smartphone screens as big as they are, it’s thought that this comment is in reference to Honor’s last big phablet, the 8X Max, which boasted a notable 7.12in display.
While the company did release the Honor 9X and 9X Pro, there was no Honor 9X Max but it’s thought that the company is considering or perhaps even already developing an Honor X10 Max for release this year.
If the X10 Max were to follow in its forebears’ footsteps, it would be the first 5G-enabled phone with a display larger than 7 inches.
Honor launched the standard Honor X10 in China back in May, which offered powerful hardware (including 5G) at an impressively low price. Should Honor shape the next Max in this same image, it could make for a compelling device in both the 5G phone space and phablet market.
Other rumoured specs include DCI-P3 colour gamut support, a notch-free display – to fall in line with the other X10 series phones – and the potential of a pop-up selfie camera.
With the Honor 30 Lite 5G expected to be launching in China on 4 July or 5 July, there’s a chance the company might use the event to unveil the Honor X10 Max too.
As with the Honor X10, it’s assumed that the X10 Max will also arrive as an exclusive within the Chinese market, with the demand for screens as big as this less prevalent among Western buyers.
