NVIDIA finally announced launch details for GeForce NOW (formerly GRID) earlier today, but the company has still more news to share. It’s expanding availability for the SHIELD hardware and adding new features to its already impressive repertoire. It’s all kicking off tomorrow.
The SHIELD Android TV is going to launch in Europe tomorrow, which is handy considering GeForce NOW is launching there as well. It will be available in the UK, France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. In the US, SHIELD will also start popping up in Google’s Fiber storefronts. GeForce NOW is a streaming service that benefits greatly from the consistently high speeds you get with Google Fiber, so it’s a good match. You have to actually be in a Fiber area for that to matter, though.
New streaming options are also scheduled to launch on SHIELD soon including SHOWTIME, NFL Sunday Ticket, and Pac 12 Football. The GeForce NOW update tomorrow adds a number of playback enhancements like lossless audio including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio pass-through with WMA-Lossless decode). Movies can also be watched in 23.976 fps mode. The update adds hardware acceleration for VC-1, MPEG-2, andWMV9 codecs as well.
