When does the Oppo Reno 5 launch?
Oppo teased its “Diamond Glow series” in a post on the company’s Weibo social media account on 2 December. The nine-second teaser video slated a 10 December launch date but no additional details.
Separately, the Reno 5 line (styled as “Reno5”) was originally thought to be comprised of just three devices, however, TheLeaks3 on Twitter posted specs relating to a fourth model: the LTE-only Oppo Reno 5 4G.
This is set to join the Oppo Reno 5 5G, Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G and Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ 5G.
How much does the Oppo Reno 5 cost?
It was assumed that these new Reno models would cost around the same as the previous generation, considering they offer only incremental bumps in hardware and features.
At launch in China, the base SKUs of both the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro cost CNY¥2,999 (roughly £345/€380/US$460) and ¥3,799 (roughly £440/€480/$580), respectively.
Confirmed pricing looks to be as expected, with similar entry points for the two most mainstream models. The Reno 5 (5G) starts at ¥3,299 (approximately £380/€415/$505) for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage SKU, while the 12GB RAM/256GB storage option will kick off at ¥3,699 (around £425/€465/$565).
As for the Reno 5 Pro, it’ll start at ¥3,899 (approximately £445/€490/$600) for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage option. The 12GB RAM/256GB model, meanwhile, is set to cost ¥4,299 (around £490/€540/$660).
What features does the Oppo Reno 5 offer?
Just as the Reno 4 series debuted the company’s “fingerprint-proof” ‘Reno Glow’ finish, as the official Weibo teaser hints at, the Reno 5 range is set to showcase a new “diamond glow” finish, with leaker Digital Chat Station, sharing macro photos comparing both the Reno 4’s and Reno 5’s finishes, side by side.
In addition, devices have already apparently made their way into the hands of a select few, showcasing the effects of this new surface treatment, with a rainbow-like reflective haze when the device is moved against the light.

Now onto the specs, kicking things off with the most recently-unearthed member of the pack – the Reno 5 4G. Then there’s the Pro+ (or Pro Plus) – going the way of Huawei and Honor, with regards to its naming.
This souped-up Reno 5 Pro blurs the lines of Oppo’s 2020 smartphone portfolio even further by introducing the same flagship-class Snapdragon 865 silicon that you’d expect to find in the likes of the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro – officially the company’s 2020 flagship devices.
As WHYLAB shared on Weibo, the Reno 5 Pro+ trades up to the Snapdragon 865 and will come in an additional plain leather colourway, alongside its ‘glow’ finish. It will also reportedly be the first mass-produced smartphone with an electrochromic back cover – a feature we were first introduced to on OnePlus’ Concept One at CES 2020 (video below).
Beyond that, the Pro+’s standout feature has to be the upgraded camera arrangement; with a 12Mp 2x telephoto snapper, a 16Mp ultrawide camera and the first phone in the world to debut Sony‘s forthcoming 50Mp IMX7xx camera sensor.
Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ specs:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC
- Rear cameras:
- 50Mp main sensor (Sony IMX7xx)
- 16Mp ultrawide
- 12Mp 2x telephoto
- 2Mp macro (?)
- Electrochromic design elements

As for any outstanding specs and final pricing across all four models. All should be revealed on 10 December and then all we’ll be left waiting for is word of the Reno 5 Series’ release outside of China.
