Samsung Galaxy A73: Everything you need to know

Samsung is preparing its yearly update to the A-series models of its Galaxy phones. Here’s what we know so far about the Galaxy A73.

When will the Samsung Galaxy A73 be released?

Samsung releases quite a lot of phones annually but the Galaxy A-series usually makes its debut in the first quarter of the year. The company is planning a keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on 4 January 2022, which could well feature new A-series models.

Here’s when the previous models were launched:

  • Samsung Galaxy A72 – March 2021
  • Samsung Galaxy A71 5G UW – July 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy A71 5G – April 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy A71 – January 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy A70s – September 2019
  • Samsung Galaxy A70 – March 2019

As you can see, the standard models release in Q1 of each year, but there are additional variations with extra features that appear a few months later. With the Galaxy A72 generation, Samsung simplified the lineup down to a single model, so we’re expecting the same for the A73, when it arrives.

The A72 didn’t make it to the USA and we have no details yet if the new model will break this trend.

How much will the Samsung A73 cost?

There has been no official word from Samsung about the Galaxy A73, which means we don’t have any confirmed prices. Instead, we look once again to those that have gone before.

With prices remaining steady over the last few years, we’re expecting Samsung to give the A73 the same treatment. One fly in this particular ointment is that the global shortage of processors – plus the increasing cost of manufacture and shipping due to the pandemic – could result in a slight price hike.

What features will the Samsung A73 have?

As with the price and release date, we still don’t have confirmed details from Samsung about the specifications on the A73. What we do have, are some substantial leaks from perennial tipster @OnLeaks, working with @Zoutons.

The two provide 3D renders of the device, along with various specs that they expect to see in the A73.

For the most part, the design is consistent with the Galaxy A72 that it’s set to replace. The display will be a 6.7in AMOLED panel with a hole-punch front camera. If Samsung sticks with the same approach as on the A72, the A73 will sport a display with a Full HD+ (1080 x 2400) resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

The report also claims that a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G will be the processor of choice for the A73, which matches the chip currently used by the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. This will be aided by 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage.

A quick look at the renders reveals the same quad-camera compliment as its predecessor, but the Zoutons’ article reports that the main sensor will be 108Mp, rather than the 64Mp unit, as found on the A72.

In terms of size, we expect the Galaxy A73 to measure 163.8 x 76 x 7.6mm, with the camera bump thickening things to 9.3mm.

With CES approaching fast, we shouldn’t have to wait long to see if these leaks are accurate. If they are, then the Samsung Galaxy A73 could well be one of the hottest mid-range devices of 2022.
