Basically the screws that kept the left earcup screwed into the headband became loose overtime and it was eventually open. There is a cable that is running from the headband down to the left earcup that has split open and now I basically don't get any sound unless I move the earcup into a certain position and even if I somehow manage to find a sweet spot it still crackles occasionally.
