    Hello,
    I have an Akai AP-005 Turntable, assembled under licence by Pye in New Zealand.
    It has been in a box, following me around the world, for around 25 years.
    I recently unpacked it to find the drive belt had perished. I replaced this and it spins OK, but the automatic mechanism doesn’t move the tonearm when Play is selected. If the tonearm is moved to the start of the record it will lower OK, and at the end of a record the arm raises and returns to rest OK. Reading leads me to suspect a reed switch which senses that the arm is in home position.
    The outside of the unit needs some attention as the casing is opening a little at the joins, and the veneer has bubbled a little (pictured).
    The lid won’t stay open (and probably needs replacing). There is some surface dirt/corrosion and the whole unit needs a darn good clean!
    I don’t know if it actually plays properly as I don’t currently have a phono stage to feed from it. I would love to be able to connect this up and play some vinyl again.
