    It is worth starting by taking out the three plugs that connect the laser mechanism to the main circuit board and clean them with some connector cleaning fluid, as they oxidise over time and this can cause intermittent problems.
    It might be the mechanism around the laser is sticking slightly, it is possible to lightly grease (silicon grease) the mechanical components that move the laser. Or it might be that they have worn slightly.
    Alternatively, it might be some electrical component is starting to fail, this would be on the digital side, not analogue.
