There is a crackling/static noise coming from the speaker, even when disconnected. The level is inconsistent ie. it rises and drops, but the interference is always there. A quick Google showed the problem crops up with this and other KRK speakers, and that the likely cause is a burnt out capacitor. I have another KRK VXT4 as part of a stereo pair, so I am able to test whether the interference is coming from the mixing desk, cables, or another external source, and it appears that the problem is internal to the unit, especially so, as the unwanted noise is emitted even when the speaker has no input.
