I am experiencing a loud crackling noise over the top of my music that I believe is originating in the amplifier, as it appeared simultaneously in both of the attached speakers and is not depended on input source. It affects both A and B output channels and all three input channels. It seems to vary almost at random, suddenly appearing very loudly and then dying away, and it seems to have no correlation to anything external i.e. whether there is music playing, whether the dials are being turned, etc.
I have disassembled the unit to inspect for damage but I cannot see anything obvious.

The requested repair was also carried out efficiently, and I am very pleased with the result. I have dropped one star in my review because the repair included replacing a red/green LED, and the red LED is so bright that the surrounding fabric is also illuminated, whereas the green LED is quite dim and can only be seen from certain angles. I guess that EP found it difficult to procure the original LED component which is undoubtedly a B&W special.

I thought my cherised 1970's Hitachi Music Centre was beyond repair until I found on Google Electronic Partners in Telford. … read more They restored it completely and replaced the woofer in both speakers, I couldn't have been more delighted.
