CD discs are undamaged and clean (playing with no problem on other CD players) also a cleaning disc in the CD unit failed to improve the skipping problem. A Sony MiniDisc shelf HIFi unit therefore I am not able to replace the system only repair/clean the current unit which has been rarely used in the past 15+ years.
