there was the slightest crackle on the left channel (sounded very much like a power capacitor starting to go) so I sent it into Richer Sounds (Stoke) for a repair. They claimed that they had not touched it and it would not be cost effective to mend, however when I got it home the channel was completely dead. So more than frustrated with them. The right hand channel and all of the digital processing still works so I suspect that it is on the analogue side.

As the DVD player sound surround system was around 20yrs old I was surprised that Electronic Partners were able to undertake a repair and give us many more years service of our system meaning no wastage of all the other perfectly good parts such as the speakers. EP also met my need in delaying the return postage until a time that I was able to be at home to receive the DVD player.
