  • The device suddenly stopped booting into Windows about 6 weeks ago. It gets stuck in a UEFI boot loop, and in the top-right corner of the UEFI menu, there is an icon with a hard drive and an x inside it (suggesting it’s a fault with the hard drive). After doing some research, I see that this has been a common issue with Surface devices and others haven’t achieved a fix on their own. I’m guessing that an SSD replacement is therefore necessary. I have tried using a Surface Recovery Image on a flash drive to reinstall Windows but the device won’t boot the installation from the flash drive, again just rebooting in a loop to the Bitlocker recovery screen. I do not have the Bitlocker recovery key. I purchased the laptop on eBay in September last year, it was brand new and sealed when I received it, although it is the US model (keyboard layout).
