I think there is something wrong with either the jack or the cable (not sure exactly) as only the right ear delivers sound. The cable sleeve is split in some places revealing the wires, so I'm not sure if these may have become damaged. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the jack as sometimes if you fiddled around with the angle the left ear would work (though now it is fully broken).

As the DVD player sound surround system was around 20yrs old I was surprised that Electronic Partners were able to undertake a repair and give us many more years service of our system meaning no wastage of all the other perfectly good parts such as the speakers. EP also met my need in delaying the return postage until a time that I was able to be at home to receive the DVD player.
