For some time (2years?) it has skipped intermittently. Tonight, power on but no disc inserted I can hear the drive spinning constantly, more noisily than the norm. Opening/ closing the drawer has no effect, nor do any of the buttons on the unit or the remote. If I turn power off, as soon as I power on it starts again. Bought new in 1998/99. No servicing.

EP also met my need in delaying the return postage until a time that I was able to be at home to receive the DVD player.
