AT&T Galaxy S6 Active Gets Android 5.1.1 And Samsung Pay Support In Latest OTA Software Update

Many of us would consider the Galaxy S6 a significantly prettier phone than prior iterations. It’s thin, sleek, shiny, and slippery. Thing is, none of these characteristics are particularly appealing when you’re climbing mountains or constructing oil rigs. Most manufacturers would say “Touch luck, stick it in a case.” But Samsung isn’t like other smartphone makers. This company cannot turn down the chance to produce another piece of hardware, no matter how slight the change may seem.

So we have the Galaxy S6 Active, a rugged version of this year’s flagship with what you could call a built-in case. It’s not as sexy by conventional standards, but it’s better built and would likely take the regular S6 in a fight. Unfortunately, it also gets updates more slowly. The Galaxy S6 Active on ATT is only just now getting its update to Android 5.1.1.

This release comes two months after ATT pushed out the latest version of Lollipop to the Galaxy S6. The older Galaxy S5 Active also managed to get this software sooner, though not by much.

But the Galaxy S6 Active isn’t just getting a later version of Android. Owners will also be able to start making purchases using Samsung Pay. This gives the S6 Active something else in common with its slimmer sibling.

Once everything is done, you will have the latest version of Lollipop. You will know everything is up-to-date once your phone displays build number G890AUCU3BOJE.
