Firefox 47 Beta Adds A Few Changes To Slightly Reduce Mobile Data Usage, Removes Support For Android Web Runtime

Shortly after Firefox 46 went stable, the beta for version 47 is now available. As is typical for browser updates, the changes are minor and eclectic, but a few this time around can decrease the amount of mobile data you consume by a hair or two.

One change is the option to show or hide web fonts, which is now available under advanced settings. Plus, Firefox will stop using data in the background when a website uses meta refresh.

This release also removes support for Android web runtime. This was code Mozilla created to run Open Web Apps for Firefox OS. The project has grown stagnant for a few years, and Mozilla is now cutting the cord. You can read up more in this Google Group and in the relevant bug report.

You can grab the Firefox beta from Google Play or APK Mirror.
