Pocket began as a way to save a website and read it later. But like any company providing a free service, Pocket started using the information it gathered on users to make recommendations. Then it introduced a way to follow friends and interesting strangers in order to keep up with what they’re reading and read their comments. What began as a useful web utility has turned into a social network.
Now Pocket is adding the option to like and repost stories. The functionality is the same as what you would expect on Twitter or Tumblr. Likes show someone you appreciate their recommendation, while reposts spread the story to your own followers.
When you view someone else’s story, you will see the number of likes and reposts. You can see your own feedback in your Notifications tab and status bar.
Pockets don’t seem like the best place to hold conversations. Then again, I don’t know many people who cram articles in their pockets either. I guess the metaphor never was all that strong. Or maybe, nevermind, I’ll pocket that thought for later.
