Remember the Verizon Z4v? Me neither [almost]! I even wrote an article about this phone like 2 weeks ago and I still barely remember it. If you want a refresher: the Z4v was basically a Verizon-ified version of the Xperia Z4. Which launched way back in April. There’s also that whole “the Z5 now exists” thing, which makes releasing a new Z4 variant kind of pointless and generally a bit silly.
Verizon, in what can only be called a mildly astonishing moment of self-realization and pragmatism, has therefore decided to cancel the phone. Take it away, Albert:
Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobile’s product portfolio and will support existing products. Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio.
Now, will this probably upset people who were waiting for this device? Of course. But those people likely number in the hundreds at this point (if that), and the rest have gone off and bought an iPhone or one of the various Galaxy devices Samsung is basically giving away like base model Priuses at this point. Hell, Samsung would probably give you a Prius if you bought a 64GB GS6 edge+, god knows they cost about the same.
Anyway, the Z4v is no more, and Verizon has kind-of-sort-of committed to announcing new Sony products in the future, so maybe not all hope is lost (Z5v, anyone?). Let’s just hope it’s not a Z4v with Z5v painted on the back. Or, preferably, Verizon-branded in the first place.
