If you’ve been able to save up a small fortune by working from home, and aim to spend that fortune on a new Apple gadget, then you may be less intimidated by Apple’s new £549/US$549 AirPods Max – Apple’s most expensive headphones.
The Max, which were rumoured to release as the AirPods Studio, launched on 8 December and are already available to pre-order from Apple.
The wireless headphones feature Apple’s H1 chipset, which powers the AirPods Max’s Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode and Spatial Audio along with Adaptive EQ, a feature you might recognize from the Homepod Studio. Surprisingly, the headphones only work with Apple products.

When do the AirPods Max release?
The AirPods Max are available to pre-order now with the release date set for 15 December. If you order from Apple, the wait time is approximately 12-14 weeks so you may have better luck with faster delivery from other retailers.
The headphones are available in space grey, silver, sky blue, green, and pink.

The premium headsets cost £549/US$549/A$899 (yes, that does make the PS5 cheaper). This also places Apple’s device above the price of two of the leading headphones on the market, the Bose QC35 II and the Sony WH-1000XM4, which are priced at £329.95 and £350, respectively.
